Caleb's Morocco 2021 Mission Trip
Hi Everyone,
Here is a short review of some of the things that happened and that I learned. This summer I was able to experience many things that allowed me to learn, adapt and grow. During the month that I spent in Tangier, I experienced many things. I was able to engage in outreach, learn about the culture, and grow spiritually.
In Tangier, I was able to engage in many different forms of outreach. I did outreach to Moroccans, the marginalized, the team, and missionaries that worked in the city. Outreach to Moroccans was mainly performed through conversing with the people we met wherever we were, although it was sometimes hard because of the language barrier, it was an overall amazing experience.
We were able to pass out food to the homeless and visit an orphanage. Full of small children that ranged from babies to around 11. For the orphanage, we sent out groups of five or six and helped the people working there.
Regarding the team, my outreach mostly consisted of encouragement and fellowship, we also did prayer rooms and had many worship services.
A few weeks into the trip we started to serve the missionaries who worked in morocco long-term. We did this by creating a vacation Bible school program that had in attendance up to 15 missionary kids. once that was over we transitioned into babysitting and just allowing the parents to rest or focus on other things. I felt extremely blessed to do these things and I was encouraged by the work that they were doing.
While we were in morocco I was able to engage regularly with the culture and learn many things about the people. The Moroccan people were extremely friendly and hospitable, it wasn’t rare to see them taking time out of their busy schedule just to converse with you. The people are very big on cafés and relaxing. There were many parks that were meticulously taken care of and constantly being used. Throughout the day there would be up to 10 to 15 people lounging around or just laying in the grass. I enjoyed the availability of coffee and how cheap it was. One downside of the culture was the lack of women’s rights, the women were constantly covered from head to toe, and there were segregated areas for men and women.
I was extremely blessed to have a very amazing team and strong leadership. The team interacted smoothly with each other and worked well together. We often encouraged each other and rarely ever became irritated with one another. I found that the lack of electronic devices heightened the bonding experience and created much more focus than usual. Overall my trip was extremely productive and allowed me to learn so much about many different aspects of life.
